Gold Ducat Boarding Kennels is owned and operated by Helen Dorrance, with help from Helenís retired husband, Scott Bowman.
Helen has been showing dogs in conformation since 1977 and has been a breeder since 1982. She has owned and/or bred over 50 breed champions. Helenís first breed is Golden Retrievers, but she also owns and shows American Eskimos. Scott also owns two Italian Greyhounds and a whippet. Over the years, Helen has also owned a Papillon, Pomeranian, Labrador Retriever, English Cocker Spaniel, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever and a mixed breed.
Helen and Scott have lived in Leander, Texas since 2002. They live on 8 totally-fenced acres that are devoted to their dogs, horses, sheep, goats, and chickens. The boarding kennel was established in 2003.
Helen has been an AKC conformation since judge 2002 and is licensed to judge most of the sporting breeds, American Eskimos dogs, and Junior Showmanship. She has competed in obedience since 1977 but once AKC endorsed agility trials, obedience trials went by the wayside.
She has been an AKC agility judge since 2005 and has actively competed in agility since 1996. She has run 15 different dogs in agility over those years. She has put over 56 agility titles on various dogs, including 2 MACHS on two American Eskimo dogs.
Helen is also extremely active in several breed and all-breed clubs:
Helen has served on the boards of all of these clubs, and has chaired or been trial secretary for numerous conformation shows and obedience and agility trials.
To say that Helenís life revolves around dogs is an understatement. Dogs have been a major part of Helenís life for decades, and she wouldnít have it any other way.
