Welcome to the Farmette Blog. After taking off a few years, I have finally resurrected my boarding kennel website again which I hope will be useful and informative. Gold Ducat Kennels is a small boarding and breeding kennel where dogs can be dogs. Dogs, like people, do best when they can exercise in nature and have a job or purpose in life. If you believe dogs are born so they can sit on the couch and watch Netflix and eat popcorn with you every day then Gold Ducat is not for you or your dog. However, I will be glad to recommend another local kennel or breeder who can better meet you and your dog’s lifestyle needs.

We are also striving to return to the days of small local events and outdoor practice areas. I recognize this is more challenging than when I moved to the Austin area in 1973. Many droughts later, 100 dead trees and 100+ degree days 3-4 months of the year, I realize outdoor events need to start early and end by noon. Nevertheless, I have a 100×200 square foot dirt arena with moveable fencing, a complete set of new agility equipment and two complete sets of regulation obedience equipment. I also have a pole barn available for barn hunts and farm dog tests. Local AKC clubs are welcome to host events here for a nominal sum.

What’s on the horizon, you might ask? We are already working on a you pick’em blackberry patch, maybe a little neighborhood farmstand, a member only private dog park? And my ultimate goal–a little drive by coffee stop, organic ingredients only. Okay, so maybe that last part is a little ambitious (or so my family tells me). One can always dream–that’s how all of this started to begin with.

So it has been impressed upon me that I need to be a little bit more frequent with my blog posts than I am with my once a year Facebook posts (although I am getting better about those). Fortunately, or unfortunately for you, dear reader, I have a wide variety of interests and will be writing on a different topic at least once a week (hopefully more often) which could be anything ranging from showing dogs to soap making to dog sports.

My next blog topic, something near and dear to my heart, canine sensitivities to chicken based dog foods.

Until next time–

Dogs Acting Like Dogs?

I think Marlowe and Fitz got a little carried away with the “acting like a dog” part. I didn’t realize the horse trough I never use had collected so much rain! Luckily I can lure them away with the blackberries pictured above.
